Biography

Finding an interest in art at an early age, I was always encouraged to have a creative spirit. Never realizing a living could be made from creating and expressing oneself through their art, when weighing options for college, becoming an artist was never considered. While attending Orange Coast Community College I began my studies in ceramics in 2013, sculpting and throwing clay became a new passion.
Receiving a Bachelor in Fine Arts with a concentration in Ceramics from California State University Fullerton in 2019, also a Certificate in Ceramics from Orange Coast College in 2016, college education has become an essential part of my life. While having a focus in ceramics, I also had the chance to study a variety of mediums including glass, wood, metal, plastics, and adhesives, this knowledge greatly expanded the possibilities of what could be created. I plan to continue to work as an artist, entering work into shows and galleries with the possibility of becoming an art educator.
Artist Statement
Creating art is a never ending journey of expressing thoughts, emotions, or life changing experiences through a multitude of mediums including drawing, painting, and sculpting. Ceramic art is crucial in capturing periods throughout time during periods of human growth and expansion, some ceramic vessels hold vast amounts of historical information dating back to the end of the Paleolithic era. My inspiration to become an artist or art educator derives from enjoying art throughout history and to preserve its existence, then to pass on the knowledge to the next generation in hopes that they too can appreciate, challenge, and create their own history within the art world.
Although being a ceramacist requires knowledge in math, geology, and chemistry, there is a certain amount of patience and determination required in addition to technical abilities. There is a certain playfulness when one is able to construct anything that your mind can visualize in a variety of mediums.
At times my art may be whimsical, but the idea is to express emotions through what you create. Whether it be conveying an idea expressed through a stunning sculpture or using glazing techniques such as splattering application with your hands, whisping free flowing brush strokes, or using elegant carefully placed strokes with a chinese bamboo brush, the idea is to create art that comes from within. My ambition is to inspire the ideal that creating and appreciating art encourages free thinking and a deeper understanding of oneself.
